• Looking back on learning: 
  • What are the most important things you’ve learned this semester?

What I have taken away from this semester is that some of the most important things are not the first things you would think about when it comes to a digital project, or just a project in general. For example, continuity is not always the first thing that comes to mind when you begin on a project, but it is very important to think about, especially because digital projects have the ability to remain active for years and years, constantly evolving. It is also crucial to make sure that you are giving credit to everyone who works on the project. Overall, I think one of the most important things I’ve learned this semester is that there are so many digital tools, so sometimes half the battle is figuring out which tool will be the best tool for your project.

• What advice would you give your past self about becoming a Vivero Fellow and learning how to do this work?

I would tell myself that although digital scholarship/humanities might seem like a really vast and unfamiliar area of work there are core concepts that translate across disciplines, and that it is not scary and insurmountable as it seems.

• Reflection on the training model:
  • What worked and what didn’t work for you?

I liked the idea of working on a new tool each week, I think that was a good amount of time to work on learning something new. I also liked the trainings that allowed us to have more creative control over what we made. I feel like I learned more with these trainings because I would explore the tools more in order to try and get the product or effect I wanted to produce, which is not something that I did as much when the trainings were more specific. I felt that revisiting tools didn’t work very well with me, especially because a lot of the time the revisiting meant doing something very similar to the first training.

• What stuck with you? Are there things you found confusing or not helpful?

What stuck with me is how important it is to take the time to look and play around with tools in order to discover how you can use them, and the best ways to use them

• What are your next steps for project work next semester?

I will be abroad next semester, and I do not believe that the HADC will have a vivero fellow next semester.

• What documentation have you created, and what documentation do you still need to create?
  • I’ve begun recording the documentation of my process for making the libguide, I still need to create the documentation for my process of adding to the list of institutions that are on the Haitian Arts Digital Crossroads map.
• What digital scholarship topics, methods, or tools might you be interested in exploring next semester, or in the future?

I am interested in exploring more scholarship on digital exhibitions. I am also interested in digital methods and tools for exhibitions as well. I think that there are lots of different ways you can have a digital exhibition, and I would like to see how digital exhibitions can stand on their own and offer something specific that an in person exhibition could not.
