They helped me visualize the contrasts between variables across different categories, such as the differences in average age across gender, or the amount of people in an age demographic across gender.

I generated a bar chart that compared number of unrelated persons in the household across the occupations held by male householders. This chart made it appear as if farmers had a lot of unrelated persons in their households. In reality, there was just a high proportion of male householders who were farmers.
